Interview #5 With Allen
(audio at bottom of article)
Allen and Ben have a frank discussion about the nature of the “justice system”, how easy it is to get caught up in the never-ending cycle of punishment (rehabilitation), and how big money greases the wheels of justice at every turn.
Allen points out that this is simply a disarming of rural America under the guise of justice, and Ben talks about Harvey Silverglate’s great book “Three Felonies a Day – How the Feds Target the Innocent” and how anyone can be brought into this loop and disarmed.

  1. Joe Terry says:

This really rang true to me. Luckily for me I have not had to diectly with it, but my brother has. And it ruly is amazing how much one felony on your history can kneecap you. He’s been stuggling ever since.

And yes having to pay for your room is board in jail is common. (They do it over here too.) At least here they admit that you monthly fee to be on probation is not about interventions. It is a suprvision fee. You’re paying to have a P.O. watch you.

  2. janet says:

Oh man… I had no idea. I did not know that convicts were charged for their room and board (is this everywhere? I, like most people, assumed we the taxpayers were paying for all this out of our taxes). If so, it is truly like debtor’s prison (ever read Little Dorritt?).

I also had no idea that all these mandatory programs (anger management, etc.) were run by private companies at the expense of the individual.

Thanks for sharing a bit more information about this whole messed up system.
